Tumthumpin came out in 1997. Your instinct was on point, Google skills less so. My mind was briefly blown.

Sometimes I find the harder thing is to appreciate something I don't like. I have no idea if Wilco is "good" or "not good," because I have never enjoyed listening to an album of theirs. And yet, I would never argue that something I like is better than Wilco. For me this statement could apply to some other beloved acts that I have no interest in any albums: Replacements, Misfits, The Roots, Common, and more. I will continue to listen to albums I love that are not as good as the "best" albums of any of these artists. I'm sure those artists are good.

I've been victim to the same shit. Just that wild group think where you start hating something because the way everyone else acted, it seemed like there had to be a real reason to hate it.

But nah, not anymore. Some things are dope as hell and a bunch of nerds on the internet can't stop me from feeling that. Thanks for another great article, Brendan.

Do you feel that, if the creative process is simply a creative jerkoff, it minimizes the creative process? Sure, jerking off feels great, but there is very little that is memorable or lasting. I mean, how many truly memorable jerkoffs do you have. By comparison, how well do you remember the process of writing pretty much any given song? As with any piece of art, regardless of medium, the beauty/quality is in the eye of the beholder, even if the beholder happens to be the artist. One of your song will have no value for me until I hear it. Even once I hear it it will mean something entirely different to you the songwriter.
