For those who don't know: Road to the Skeleton Coast podcast/ Better Sandwich Patreon is an easy and great way to devote hours of your time listening to Brendan talk about music, his music, and many asides.

My point: I can now read all of these entries in his voice. Like Morgan Freeman. Shit's wild. Highly recommend.

shucks. Sorry you have to consider my dumb voice at all, but thank you for reading and listening!

I should also add that I can (unnecessarily) hear Tim's slow laugh at your typed jokes. Maybe I'm just losing it, at this point?

Ah, no sorry needed. I've been listening to your "dumb voice" since I was 14 (almost 20 years now). I'm sure that plays a part. I'll keep paying if you keep playing.

i really want to subscribe but i honestly think if my wife hears one more brendan kelly podcast i might be asked (unkindly) to move out. but from listening to like, months worth of Road to the Skeleton Coast, I absolutely get ‘hearing’ it that way when you read.

Yeah it's wild, but also it's kinda cool. I'm still over a month BEHIND on RTTSC but making headway every day.

same, I listen on my way to work so it takes me a week’s worth of drives to get through one episode. I *love* a deep dive into an album though, and as a newer (or re-newed, rather) fan of the band, it’s been an awesome thing to accompany my re-listening. I love it and right now I feel like it’s the only thing keeping me sane.

Same problem. 15 minute drive tops, but lunch and the occasional late night I should be asleep (now). It's great. I've heard shit about songs I've sang for over a decade and just "whoa'd" all Keanu style. Honestly, more bands should do this, but if Tim and Beex never stop, I guess I won't have time for them, so whatever.

Ham n cheese good. But hot ham n cheese much better.

Definitely second the thoughts re reuben. Russian, thousand islands, who gives a shit as long as it's saucy.

If you're not a fan of dry sandwiches, the Cuban, which in my experience is given a light slathering of mustard, is not the best. The Cuban Steak Sandwich (pan con bistec) however is much better and comes w fried potato

Straws on top.

I never knew how rare a good Italian beef was until I moved out of Chicago. What a shame as it is #1 best sandwich imho. Then a good pulled pork. Then a good chix sand

Although it was a pork sandwich w broccoli rabe that won the big competition of 2012

I see what’s happening here

i used to have a customer at the gas station where i work that would make the same joke every day about his hot dog with pickles being a cuban dog. it never made me laugh then, and it still doesn’t. also, meatloaf is such a weird thing: weird to eat it as a slab of meat but also weird to eat on a sandwich. my mom would make one with velveeta inside though, and i can’t complain about that.

Please send your mom my appreciation however possible. ❤️

Oh, that sounds redeeming. I always hated meatloaf as a kid. Something about the texture. I'd gag and couldn't eat it. My wife's dad makes it without bread (crumbs) and absolutely never considered ketchup; his is great. It's basically a burger, but Italian-y. I was 25 when I finally consumed meatloaf. But now I really want it with Velveeta. Holy smokes

hm. now i’m so curious how it sticks together without the bread crumbs. i guess it might depend on the far content of the meat? unless he uses something else as a binder? oatmeal maybe?

Honestly, no idea. I always thought it was the egg combo I hated, but he said he uses egg. I could be completely wrong, but it didn't have that EXACT same fluff (bleh) and was very similar to a burger.

Fish + cheese is so fucking weird. My Finnish grandfather used to treat me to McDonald's when I came to visit and would let me get whatever the hell I wanted so long as I ordered two or three filet o' fishes for him (I believe he referred to it as "that fish"). You haven't truly lived until you watch an elderly, battle-hardened Finnish man house a tartar sauce/cheese slathered slab of fishstickery in an Oldsmobile.
