In the book Talking to Strangers, there is a chapter on the "Friends Fallacy" (watch an episode of Friends with the sound off& you still Know exactly what's going on). The idea that so many individuals display outward emotion that is "mismatched" to our own Reactions, or to what we would think is a normal response, is a compelling thought in terms of altering our perspective and understanding of others.
